Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) - taking care of our environment and each other. When interacting with all of our tree and plant whanau we acknowledge Te Taiao (the natural world/ environment). We have spoken karakia to the plants and trees in the rongoā forest with the understanding that we are working together to share knowledge. We know that we must ask before taking and understand as humans we are the teina (younger sibling) to the natural world. Therefore we honour and respect their Mauri (life force) and we are doing our best to enhance their growing environment.
Please be aware some of our native plants and trees are poisonous and can make you very sick. Just because a tree or plant is here it does not mean it is safe for consumption. Please be 100% sure you know what the plant is before you put anything in your mouth.
